Skate 3 is a skateboarding extreme sports game set in an open environment and played in third person. The game takes place in the fictitious city of Port Carverton. Although the setting is brighter and warmer than Skate 2’s de-saturated and gritty streets, the gameplay is comparable to the first and second games. Downtown, University, and Industrial are the three districts that comprise Port Carverton. Although the city as a whole is fairly clean (save for the industrial areas), each district has its own distinct design and landmarks. Downtown has smooth hard ledges and rails, but the University has banks and open places. Industrial is the most peculiar; it is home to a massive quarry that produces stone bricks.

Unlike the original Skate, two additional difficulty levels have been added. One is “Easy Mode” and the second mode is “Hardcore Mode”. “Easy Mode” makes it simpler to accomplish stunts and gives the user more control over the character. “Hardcore Mode” tries to simulate skating more realistically and forces the user to complete tricks accurately.
